The election for Islands Trust trustees is on October 17, 2026.
Friends of the Gulf Islands Society is a collaboration of islanders focussed on the islands under the jurisdiction of the Islands Trust, a unique “public trust” created by the British Columbia legislature in 1974 to stop unrestrained development and preserve the natural environment and rural character of the islands for all British Columbians. We advocate for our elected trustees and the Province of BC to fulfill their obligation under the Trust Act “to preserve and protect” the Trust islands during these times of increasing development pressures and the climate crisis.
With the Islands Trust election approaching on October 17th, voters face an important choice about the future direction of one of British Columbia’s most remarkable public institutions.
